Cornhusk  Bottles

We began searching for someone to make twined cornhusk bottles in 1990. So far we haven’t found any Haudenosaunee craftsmen who still make these bottles.

In 1998 Michael began looking at museum pieces and he made an attempt to recreate these unique containers. The first bottle he made was very crude but the basic technique was solid. Today, he is the only Native craftsman making cornhusk bottles with any frequency. The dexterity and patience involved in making a good bottle takes years of practice. They are very tightly woven and are great containers for storing salt, tobacco, or powdered medicines.

Cornhusk bottles $75.00-$100.00 usd (depending on size)
