Wooden Effigy Spoons
Michael has been carving for many years and has made dozens of effigy spoons. He prefers hardwoods like maple or hickory for spoons and will use burlwood when I can find it. He can carve any effigy on a spoon, turtles, bears, humans, birds, etc. He looks to Haudenosaunee spoons for his inspiration. Items like bowls or trenchers are hand carved with an axe, adze and crooked knife. Only a few bowls are made each year but sometime more can be made depending on time.
