Tumplines (Burden Straps)

We use basswood inner bark, dogbane, milkweed, and nettle to make many items of material culture. Tumplines, prisoner’s halters, twined bags, belts, nets, and ropes are all items we’ve made in the past. Because of the time involved in the creation of hand made cordage these items take more time than most. We harvest basswood bark in the spring, dogbane in mid-winter, nettle and milkweed in late fall. We try to have some material around all year long.
